CONWAY, S.C. — Although UTSA was listed as the home team, the 2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl was effectively a road game for the Roadrunners, played at Coastal Carolina’s stadium in Conway, South Carolina, with the Chanticleers as their opponent.

Despite the chilly 40-degree temperatures, UTSA’s offense found its rhythm in the first half, scoring three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead by halftime. The scoring began with a Brandon High touchdown run inside the 10-yard line, followed by a 35-yard run from Owen McCown, and a 6-yard touchdown pass from McCown to Patrick Overmyer.

Coastal Carolina’s only red zone chance came in the final two minutes of the half, but UTSA stopped them on a crucial fourth-down play.

The second half saw more of the same dominance from UTSA. The Roadrunners added two short field goals on their first two drives, while Coastal Carolina struggled with two consecutive three-and-out possessions. UTSA’s defense extended their streak of at least one interception and one sack in each game to 23, with Jakevian Rodgers snagging his first career interception on CCU’s third drive.

Coastal Carolina’s lone touchdown came early in the fourth quarter when Bryson Graves caught a 50-yard pass from Tad Hudson. However, UTSA answered quickly with a 93-yard kickoff return touchdown by Chris Carpenter, pushing the lead to 34-7.

The Roadrunners went on to score the most points in their bowl game history, securing their second consecutive bowl win.

Owen McCown threw for 254 yards and a touchdown, while UTSA rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns, even without their top rusher, Robert Henry. McCown, High, and Will Henderson III each contributed a rushing touchdown.

This victory marked the largest margin of victory in the five-year history of the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
